Rivers Invited to Play in Portsmouth Invitational

April 3, 2009

Clemson senior K.C. Rivers has been invited to play in the 57th annual Portsmouth Invitational next week in Portsmouth, VA. Rivers, who will be one of 64 college seniors playing in the showcase tournament, has been named to the roster for Sales Systems, Ltd. Games will be held from Wednesday, April 8 through Saturday, April 11 at Churchland High School in Portsmouth.

Among the teammates selected to play alongside Rivers are Kyle McAlarney, a three-point marksman from Notre Dame, and Jeff Pendergraph, a strong forward who played for Arizona State. Rivers and his teammates will start the tournament Wednesday, April 8 against K&D Rounds Landscaping, a team that features the likes of Courtney Fells (NC State), Byron Eaton (Oklahoma State), and Robert Dozier (Memphis).

Rivers concluded his career with 1,684 points, sixth-most in Clemson history. He made 281 three-point goals with the Tiger program, a school record. Rivers also ranks third in school history in steals (210) and 11th in rebounds (721). The Charlotte, NC native also ranks among the top 10 in the Clemson record books in minutes played (3,873), double figure scoring games (90), field goals made (625), three-point accuracy (.385), and three-pointers per game (2.1).

Rivers played in 91 victories (including a record 35 over ACC teams) during his time with the program, the most wins by an individual player in Clemson history. He averaged double figures three straight seasons and was a big reason Clemson advanced to the championship game of the ACC Tournament in 2007-08 and to the NCAA Tournament each of the past two seasons.
