Rivers Concludes Play at Portsmouth Invitational

Clemson senior K.C. Rivers concluded play Saturday evening at the Portsmouth Invitational, a tournament featuring 64 of the nation’s top college basketball seniors. Rivers helped lead Sales Systems, Ltd. to a runner-up finish in the tournament with a 2-1 record.

For the three games played, Rivers averaged 10.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He started the first and third contests for Sales Systems, but not the second game, which turned out to be his best performance. The Charlotte, NC native struggled shooting the ball Wednesday against K&D Rounds Landscaping, but he was able to contribute three assists and two steals with zero turnovers in 26 minutes of play.

On Friday evening, Rivers led his team to a win over Portsmouth Partnership by a score of 80-78. Rivers sank 7-13 field goals in the second game, including 2-6 from three-point range. He led all scorers in the Friday contest with 17 points. He also chipped in four rebounds in 22 outstanding minutes of play.

In Saturday’s championship game, Rivers’ team lost by a score of 72-69. Rivers, Clemson’s all-time leader with 281 three-point goals, nailed 3-6 from long range and reached double figures with 11 points versus Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He added six rebounds.
