Rick Hill In 24th Place In NCAA Decathlon After Day One Of Competition

AUSTIN, TX – Clemson men’s track and field decathlete Rick Hill is in 24th place after day one of the decathlon at the NCAA Championships held on day two at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Hill, a senior from Chapel Hill, NC, suffered a foot injury prior to the beginning of competition, but fought through pain to complete the first day with 3,520 points.

In the first event of the day, Hill completed the 100m dash in 11.27 to tally 801 points. He posted a mark of 20’4.25″ in the long jump for 630 points, then added 606 points with a throw of 39’4″ in the shot put. Hill cleared 6’0.75″ in the high jump for 670 points, and finished the day strong with a time of 50.03 in the 400m dash. That time was the 10th-best mark in the field and added 813 points to Hill’s total.

The decathlon with conclude on Saturday with the 110m hurdles, pole vault, discus throw, javelin throw and 1500m run.
