Richmond Tops Furman 1-0 In Overtime

CLEMSON, S.C. — Richmond’s Brooke Sands scored in the overtime period in lifting Richmond to a 1-0 win over Furman in the first game of the Clemson/Nike Women’s Soccer Tournament at Clemson’s Riggs Field Friday evening.

Sands scored at the 104:32 mark in the sudden death overtime. Sands took a shot and the ball bounced off the Furman goalkeeper Jessi Anucinski. Sands collected the rebound and sent her shot in the net from close range. Nicole Froman was credited with an assist.

This was the first game for Furman’s freshman goalkeeper Jessi Anucinski. The starting goalkeeper for Furman, Melissa Barnes, was injured in pregame warmup activities.

Furman will play Princeton Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m., while Clemson will play Richmond at 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the final day of the tournament.
