Renovated Rock Norman Track to Host ACC Outdoor Championships Next Week

April 9, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – In less than a week, 12 schools will compete at Clemson’s renovated Rock Norman Track facility at the ACC Outdoor Championships. It will be the first ACC outdoor meet held in Clemson since the 1999 season. The teams competing will enjoy multiple first-class renovations, most notably a brand new 2000 Hobart track & field surface. The resurfacing was completed last fall by Beynon Sports Surfaces of Hunt Valley, MD.

“With the new BSS 2000 track & field surface with our customized Hobart texture, the athletes at Clemson University will compete on a surface with unmatched trainability, as well as the speed necessary to deliver unmatched performances,” said Gary Wilson, national sales director for Beynon. “This surface will allow athletes to provide faster times and allow them to train and compete daily, without injuries commonly found when utilizing a sheet good rubber product. Beynon Sports Surfaces could not be more proud of our association with Clemson University and all the ACC track & field programs.”

The 10-lane track and jump pits were resurfaced last fall. The unique quality of the Hobart system allows student-athletes to train, while being able to obtain world-class records and speed. The new surface has made quite an impression on Clemson’s Director of Track & Field, Lawrence Johnson.

“The surface that was designed, manufactured and installed for us is tremendous – extremely fast and training friendly,” Johnson said. “We want to thank Beynon Sports Surfaces for working tirelessly to provide the highest level of customer services in the track & field surfacing market today.”

Coaches, student-athletes and fans alike will also enjoy several new amenities next week when the ACC Championships are underway. New trees were planted along the inside and outside of the fence on the frontstretch curve to give the facility an aesthetic appeal. New wrought iron fencing and brick pillars were used in the construction of a new entrance between the indoor and outdoor facilities as well.

The ACC Championships will be held Thursday, Apr. 15 through Saturday, Apr. 17. Admission is free to the event and fans are encouraged to come out to witness some of the most competitive action in all of collegiate track & field.
