Raymond Henderson Signs With Clemson Basketball

November 11, 1998

Clemson, S.C. – Clemson Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Larry Shyatt, announced the signing of Raymond Henderson to a national letter of intent on Wednesday.

Henderson, 6-8 and 245 pounds, is a center/forward at East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC. As a junior, he averaged 16 points, 15 rebounds, and eight blocks per game last season. Street & Smith’s college basketball magazine tabbed Henderson as a high school honorable mention All-American.

“We are delighted to have Raymond and his mom Melissa join the Clemson Tiger basketball family, said Shyatt. “He comes from a program at East Mecklenburg that has a good staff in head coach John Reisterer and his assistant Kenny Lyle.

“Raymond was one of the first players that we communicated with and set our targets on the moment we arrived last April. He enters our program at an excellent time, because after this season we will lose two powerful players in Tom Wideman and Harold Jamison. Raymond possesses an extremely large wingspan and has a solid physical presence that will give him an advantage early in his college career. He will be a perfect fit for the interior game we like to play at Clemson.

“Raymond has had some positive influences both on and off the floor in past years and I hope we can continue to do an outstanding job of guiding him, ” stated Shyatt.
