Rain, Lightning Forces Tuesday Practice Cut Short, Moved Indoors

Aug. 15, 2006

Clemson, SC – Clemson’s lone practice on Tuesday was cut short by rain and lightning after 27 minutes. Practice moved indoors, where the offense and defense did a walkthrough for the remainder of practice.

“We got some thing done from an assignment standpoint, but not much with alignment,” said Head Coach Tommy Bowden. “Right now, we’re working on base parts of our offense. Ten days before the first game, we’ll polish our gameplan.”

In the brief time spent on the practice field, the kickers and special teams were able to go through drills. Bowden stated that walk-on Jimmy Maners is ahead of senior Cole Chason at punter, but the starting position is still open.

“It’s important that we have competition in all of our kicking positions,” said Bowden. “Jimmy has really improved on his get-off time. I’ve also been pleased with the new (conventional) punting formation so far.”

There were no new injuries reported. The team will return to two-a-days on Wednesday with a morning practice in pads and an afternoon practice in shells.
