Phil Pohl Named First-Team Academic All-District III

May 6, 2011

Clemson, SC –

Junior Phil Pohl was named First-Team Academic All-District III, announced Thursday by CoSIDA. The Capital One Academic All-District baseball teams were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.

Pohl was selected as the first-team designated hitter for District III. The Cooperstown, NY native is second on the team and fifth in the ACC with a .360 batting average along with 15 doubles, four homers, 29 RBIs, 29 runs, and four stolen bases in 41 games (38 starts). The co-captain has totaled 18 multi-hit games in 2011 and had an 11-game hitting streak earlier this season.

In the classroom, Pohl entered the spring semester with a 3.81 career GPA in management. He was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll each of his first two seasons at Clemson and was honored during the 2010 College World Series Opening Ceremonies for having the team’s best GPA. Pohl has also been involved in several community service projects during his time at Clemson.

The University Division in District III represents all NCAA Division I programs in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Student-athletes selected first-team All-District will be eligible for the Academic All-America ballot, where first, second, and third-team honorees will be chosen later in May.
