Pettit Leads Tigers With 68

Clemson, S.C.—Turk Pettit fired a two-under par 68 to lead Clemson to a 282 team score and a tie for second place after the first round of the Nike Golf Collegiate Invite at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. The 15-team tournament features nine of the top 25 teams in the nation and is regarded as the top men’s college tournament of the fall portion of the schedule.

Vanderbilt leads the tournament after 18 holes with a one-over par 281 score. Clemson is tied with Wake Forest for second at 282 and Texas is fourth at 283. Duke is tied fifth with Oregon at 285, just three shots behind the Tigers. The tournament continues Monday and Tuesday, with 18 holes each day.

Clemson leads the 15-team field in two categories following the first round; they have the most pars at 65 and are even on par four holes.

Pettit’s first-round 68 has him tied for third in the field with Southern California’s Issei Tanabe. Pettit had three birdies and one bogey on the day and is just two shots behind Vanderbilt’s Mason Greenberg, the field’s leader.

Bryson Nimmer also shot under par on Sunday with a 69. The senior played the last nine holes at one-under par 34, as he made a birdie on the final hole of the day. Nimmer is tied for fifth after the first round with Trent Phillips of Georgia and Charlie Reiter of Southern California.

Colby Patton saw his first action of the 2018-19 season today with an opening round of 72. William Nottingham and Jacob Bridgeman both shot rounds of 73.
