One Singles Player, One Doubles Team in Semifinals at ITA Carolina Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – One Clemson singles player and one doubles team advanced to the semifinal round at the ITA Carolina Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C. Senior Joana Eidukonyte will play in the singles semifinals, and, with freshman Theresa Piontek, will compete in the doubles semifinals at the regional tournament. Both matches will be played on Sunday.

Eidukonyte, the second-seeded player in the singles bracket, defeated North Carolina’s Chloe Ouellet-Pizer in the Round of 16 (7-6, 6-0) and NC State’s Joanna Nalborska in the quarterfinals (6-1, 6-1) on Saturday. The native of Vilnius, Lithuania has now won four straight matches in the tournament, all four wins coming in straight sets. Eidukonyte is set to face South Carolina’s Ingrid Martins, a No. 9 seed, in the semifinals on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

In doubles play, Eidukonyte and Piontek (Eltville, Germany) continued their run with an 8-5 victory over Humberg and Uzelac of Winthrop in the quarterfinal round. The duo is coming off an upset over the tournament’s top-seeded doubles team, from Duke, in Friday’s Round of 16. Eidukonyte and Piontek will meet the Gamecocks’ duo of Hadley Berg and Brigit Folland, the No. 4 seed in the draw, on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
