No. 8 North Carolina Edge’s No. 6 Clemson, 1-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina got a second-half goal from Logan Pause as the No. 8-ranked Tar Heels defeated No. 6 Clemson, 1-0, in Chapel Hill, NC on Saturday night.

With the win, North Carolina improves to 14-3 this season and finishes its 2001 ACC campaign with a 4-2 record. With the loss, Clemson falls to 12-4, 2-2 ACC. The Tigers still have two conference games remaining and will face Wake Forest and Duke next week.

After a scoreless first half, North Carolina’s Logan Pause scored the first and only goal of the game at the 48:47, stealing a back pass from a Clemson defender intended for Tiger keeper Doug Warren. Despite the goal, Warren had a strong game and finished the match with 5 saves for the Tigers. The Tigers managed nine shots in the match but were not able to capitalize on any of the opportunities.

Clemson will return to action next Wednesday night when they host the Duke Blue Devils at Historic Riggs Field in a match scheduled for 7:00PM.
