No. 15 Clemson Whips Illinois State, 3-0

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson volleyball team, ranked 15th nationally, defeated Illinois State 3-0 (15-13, 15-3, 15-11) Friday night at Jervey Gym. The Tigers pushed their winning streak to 24 games, the third-longest streak in Clemson history.

The Tigers overcame a 9-4 deficit in game one to take a 15-13 victory. In game two, Clemson outhit Illinois State .259 to -.179 for the 15-3 win. The Tigers were down 6-3 in game three, then tied the game at nine points apiece before pulling away for the 15-11 win.

Senior Alison Coday led the Tigers with 17 kills, two errors and 31 attempts for a .484 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Jessi Betcher led the team with 49 assists and added three kills off seven attempts, with no errors for a .429 attack percentage.

Sophomore Jodi Steffes and senior Cindy Stern paced the team with 12 digs each. Steffes had 12 kills, and Stern had 11 kills, while senior Emily Gorla added 11 digs and seven kills. Freshman Mallory Benson led the Tigers with three block assists.

Illinois State (3-6) will face Furman at Clemson Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Clemson (8-0) will face Furman Saturday in Jervey Gym at 2:30 p.m.
