CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team defeated the University of Memphis 4-0 and the University of South Carolina Upstate, 5-0, on Saturday at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center. The Tigers entered the match ranked #11 nationally and improved to 3-0 on the season.
The Tigers will return to action on Tuesday with another double-header against Charleston Southern at 1:00PM and Winthrop at 5:00PM. Admission is free to both matches.
Laurianne Henry and Keri Wong started the morning off right against Memphis with an 8-6 win over Stefanie Mikesz and Mariya Slupska. The Tigers swept all three doubles matches against Memphis and both doubles matches against USC Upstate.
Maria Belaya and Caroline Magnusson won both of their doubles matches today with an 8-6 win against Collins and Gray of Memphis and an 8-2 against Estupinon and Martinez of USC Upstate.
On the singles side, #48 Maria Belaya also swept both of her singles matches with 6-2, 6-0 win and a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Klara Vyskocilova won her only singles match of the day with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win over Memphis’s Mariya Slupska to clinch the first victory of the day. The final three matches against Memphis were stopped early due to the men’s tennis match against Davidson.
In the match against USC Upstate, Magnusson defeated Catherine Estupinon 6-0, 6-1 to start off singles scoring for the Tigers. Then, Nelly Ciolkowski defeated Karen Martinez 6-3, 6-2 to finish the match.
