No. 11 Baseball Shuts Out No. 4 Miami, 4-0

Jan. 30, 2000

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.-No. 11 Clemson shut out defending national champion Miami (Fla.), 4-0 in the ACC Baseball Disney Blast Saturday night.

It marks just the second time in the past 265 games that the Hurricanes have been shut out, and also snaps Miami’s nation’s-best 13-game winning streak.

In his first outing as a Tiger, senior transfer Scott Berney pitched brilliantly, allowing no runs, three hits and no walks in seven innings, while striking out eight. Matt Additon and Nick Glaser pitched the final two innings.

Clemson scored in the sixth inning, when Casey Stone’s fielder’s choice brought home Brian Ellis.

The Tigers added three runs in the eighth. With the bases loaded and two out, freshman Jeff Baker hit a ball past the pitcher, scoring both Brian Holstad from third and Stone from second. Khalil Greene then singled to right to plate Henri Stanley.

Clemson faces No. 23 Central Florida on Sunday at 12:15 p.m.
