Nimmer Finishes Third at Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic

Clemson, S.C.—Clemson senior Bryson Nimmer finished third at the Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic at El Paso Country Club in El Paso, Tex on Tuesday.  The native of Bluffton, SC and Clemson’s top player this fall had a final round 70 to finish with a 12-under-par 201 score for 54 holes.

Quade Cummins of the University of Oklahoma won the tournament thanks to a tournament best nine-under-par 62 on Tuesday.   He finished 54 holes in a tie with Spencer Ralston of the University of Georgia at 13-under-par 200.  Cummins then won a playoff against Ralston.

Nimmer finished just one shot out of the playoff, but had 16 birdies over the 54-hole tournament that featured 29 of the top college golfers in the nation.  He had rounds of 63-68-70 to finish third.   Nimmer had a two-shot lead with eight holes to play, but had two bogeys over his next seven holes before making a birdie on the final hole to come up one shot short.

Nimmer played the par four holes at nine-under par, best in the field and his 16 birdies ranked fourth best.

Turk Pettit, a sophomore on the Clemson team, finished tied for 18th with a score of 211, two-under-par.  Pettit had rounds of 74-68-69.  He had three birdies and a bogey on Tuesday.

Nimmer and Pettit have helped Clemson to a top 10 national ranking this fall.  Clemson returns to the course in February at the San Juan Shootout in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico.
