Mijacika To Play For ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship Title

Nov. 8, 2008

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Ani Mijacika, a junior on the Clemson women’s tennis team and the nation’s #2-ranked player, will vie for the title at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship on Sunday, Nov. 9. Mijacika won her semifinal match-up on Saturday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, VA to set up a rematch of the 2007 final.

Mijacika will take on #1-ranked Aurelija Miseviciute of Arkansas on Sunday, the second straight year the pair will face off for the crown. Miseviciute prevailed in a hard-fought three-set match in 2007, coming from behind for the win. Mijacika had won the first set, 6-3, while Miseviciute posted a 7-5 win in the second. The two then battled to a tie-break in the third set, which the Arkansas player eked out, 7-3, for the victory.

On Saturday, Mijacika trailed in both sets to Northwestern’s Maria Mosolova but erased the deficits and advance to the finals. The native of Makarska, Croatia is yet to drop a set in this season’s tournament. Mosolova held a 4-3 advantage in the first set before Mijacika pulled ahead, 6-5. The Tiger player then won the tie-break, 9-7, for the lead in the match. Mosolova again led by a 4-3 margin in the second set, but Mijacika rallied to win the next three games for the 6-4 victory, her 12th of the 2008 fall season.
