Mijacika And Van Adrichem Reach Semifinals At Wilson/ITA Southeast Regionals

Oct. 21, 2007

CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Clemson women’s tennis doubles tandem of Ani Mijacika and Federica van Adrichem won its quarterfinal match-up on Sunday morning at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships to advance to the final four of the tournament. The semifinals will be held on Monday at the University of North Carolina’s Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, NC.

Mijacika and Van Adrichem defeated North Carolina’s duo of Meg Fanjoy and Austin Smith by an 8-5 margin and will face Amanda Granson and Melissa Mang of Duke in the semifinals.

With Sunday’s win, Mijacika, a sophomore from Makarska, Croatia, has now reached the final four in doubles play of the southeast regionals in each of her two seasons at Clemson. Last year, she teamed with Carol Salge to finish second in the tournament. Mijacika and Van Adrichem have already made their mark in the Clemson record books as the duo was the first doubles team in school history to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament, doing so last May. They are ranked #2 in the preseason Fila/ITA Tennis poll and now boast a 7-2 record for the fall season.

In quarterfinal doubles action, the Tiger team of Ina Hadziselimovic and Alexandra Luc fell to fourth-seeded Sophie Grabinski and Sanaz Marand of North Carolina, 8-5.
