Michaela Franklin to Present at 2017 AVCA Convention

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemsonhead coach Michaela Franklin will present at the 2017 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Convention, which will be held Dec. 13-17 in Kansas City, Mo. The annual event is the largest gathering of volleyball coaches in the world for education, networking and social events.

“I’m thrilled to speak at the AVCA convention this December in Kansas City for the opportunity to give back to an organization that has definitely helped me grow and develop throughout my coaching career,” said Franklin.

Franklin will present on transitioning from an assistant coach to a head coach as just one of about 100 presenters from across the globe. Industry leaders and coaches from every level of the sport for both genders in indoor and beach will converge on the Kansas City Convention Center to instruct and learn from their peers.

“I think the transition of coming back into the head coaching role was a lot different for me the second time around than it was the first time. I knew a bit little more of what to expect during the transition. But I think the biggest aspect with coming to a place like Clemson was the the opportunity to really develop a program and get it headed in the direction we want it to go.”

Franklin was the head coach at Green Bay in 2013 before becoming the associate head coach at Iowa from 2014-17. The Phoenix accomplished a 9-5 mark in Horizon League action with four players receiving Horizon League honors at the end of the season, including three all-league selections and the conference Freshman of the Year. Prior to Green Bay, Franklin spent four seasons coaching alongside current Iowa head coach Bond Shymansky as an assistant coach at Marquette. Franklin began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Northern Illinois from 2006-08. The Lincoln, Neb., native played at Kansas State from 2002-04, where she helped the Wildcats to a Big 12 Championship and made three NCAA Tournament appearances including a berth in the Sweet 16.

USA Women’s and Men’s National Team Head Coaches Karch Kiraly and John Speraw have sessions, and four-time Olympic Medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings will meet attendees and take pictures. In addition, club, high school, and college coaching legends have on-court presentations and panel discussions focusing on the on-court technical aspect of the sport as well as off-court issues.

Kansas City will be the epicenter of volleyball in the United States in December, where it will also serve as the site for the NCAA Championship and the Under Armour High School All-America Match & Skills Competition at the Sprint Center. Also, the best college volleyball players and the top coaches in the country will be honored at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet and Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon, respectively.

With over 2,500 coaches, administrators, and exhibitors expected to be in attendance, this convention is widely regarded as a must-attend in the volleyball community. Over 300 high school volleyball players will be there for a weekend of education and participate in the showcase to display their skills in front of hundreds of college coaches.
