Michael Johnson Suffers Dislocated Ankle

Oct. 14, 2002

Clemson All-America first-baseman Michael Johnson suffered a dislocated right ankle while sliding into a base during fall drills Saturday. The Georgetown, SC native and red-shirt senior had corrective surgery on Sunday. He is expected to be out of action for 8-10 weeks. Johnson is expected to make a full recovery in time for Clemson’s 2003 season opener at Auburn on February 21.

Johnson, who has returned to Clemson for his senior season after being drafted in the second round by the Padres in the 2002 Major League Draft, hit .384 with 25 homers and 81 RBIs a season ago in the Tigers’ top-three national finish. He is a career .346 hitter with 46 homers.
