Men’s Track & Field Completes Day One at Iowa State Classic

Ames, IA – Clemson men’s track & field completed day one at the Iowa State Classic on Friday. The meet serves as one of the premier indoor events during the 2006 season, as 75 men’s and women’s teams are competing this weekend.

Highlighting the Tigers’ performance on Friday were Lydell Perry and Roy Cheney, who advanced to Saturday’s semifinals in the 60m hurdles by virtue of their times in the prelims. Perry clocked in at 8.05 seconds, ninth-fastest overall, while Cheney ran a season-best 8.09. Also competing in the high hurdles for Clemson were Brent Hobbs (8.27), Rashad Gardner (8.34), and Mike Feathers (8.58).

Lydell Perry at 21.98, a career-best effort for the native of Jonesboro, GA. Andy Porter (23.00) also ran the 200m for Clemson on Friday. In the 5000m run, Brian Soder finished with a time of 15:39.18.

Concluding action for the Tigers on day one was Danny Alge in the weight throw, where he was 17th out of 31 throwers with a mark of 58’6.75″.

The Tigers next return to action on Saturday morning, with Clemson’s first event being the 3000m run.
