CHRISTIANSBURG, VA – The Clemson men’s swimming team began the 2012 ACC Championships with a pair of relays at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center on Wednesday night. Currently, the Tigers and the Maryland Terrapins sit in a tie for eighth place with 48 points. Host school Virginia Tech has the early lead with 68 points.
The 200 medley relay team of Chris Dart, Chris Reinke, Seth Broster, and Eric Bruck posted the second-best time in school history and earned the Tigers 30 points. The squad finished in fourth place in the event with a time of 1:27.44, 70 seconds behind the school record set last year.
In addition, Reinke, Lee Groseclose, Myles Oliver, and Harry Foster competed in the 800 freestyle relay. The foursome came in ninth place with a season-best swim of 6:39.10, netting 18 points for Clemson. Both of Wednesday’s swims were NCAA-B qualifying times.
The Tigers will return to the pool on Thursday morning for the second day of action at the ACC Championships. Preliminary heats will begin at 11 a.m., while finals will be held beginning at 7 p.m. Among the contested events will be the 50 freestyle, the 500 freestyle, the 200 IM, and the 200 freestyle relay.
