Men’s Soccer Defeats William & Mary, 1-0

CLEMSON, S.C. – Scott Bower scored the game’s only goal with :33 seconds left in the first half in leading top-seed Clemson to a 1-0 win over William & Mary in the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament’s Round of 16 at Clemson, SC Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Clemson improves its record to 22-1 overall, while William & Mary ends its season with a 15-8-2 record overall. The Tigers have now won 17 games in a row and set a new school record for most consecutive victories.

The Tigers’ John Wilson drove down the left flank and beat three defenders. He crossed the ball to Scott Bower who was trailing toward the left post. Bower drove the shot in from close range near the left post at the 44:27 mark. This was Bower’s ninth goal this season. John Wilson was credited with the assist, his 10th this year.

Clemson’s goalkeeper, Josh Campbell worked all 90 minutes of the contest and picked up his 12th solo shutout this season. The Clemson defense has not allowed a goal in 752 minutes (over six games).

The Tigers will be making their second consecutive trip to the NCAA’s Final Eight. Since the program began in 1967, Clemson has been to nine NCAA Quarterfinals. The last time Clemson played host to the quarterfinal round was in 1979.
