Oct. 21, 2000

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The 11th-ranked Clemson men’s soccer team knocked off 15th-ranked Wake Forest by a score of 2-1 on Saturday night at Spry Stadium. With the game tied at one, Fabio Tambosi scored in the 66th minute to give Clemson the victory.

Clemson handed the Demon Deacon their first loss since September 16. Clemson improves to 10-3-1 and 2-3 in the ACC while Wake Forest drops to 9-4-1 on the year and 2-2 in ACC play.

Clemson controlled the play in the first half, outshooting the Demon Deacons by a 10-0 margin. Wake Forest was limited in its scoring opportunities for most of the game and didn’t record its first shot until the 54th minute of the game.

Clemson’s first goal was scored by Mark Lisi at the 17:53 mark with assists from Tambosi and Nathan Rawlins.

Despite the wide margin in shots, sophomore captain Aaron Thomas tied the game in the 62nd minute. Clemson goalkeeper Doug Warren got a piece of the shot but the ball trickled into the cage to knot the score at one.

Less than five minutes later, however, Clemson regained the lead on Tambosi’s goal. Tambosi charged through the middle and received a thru-ball from Mark Lisi.

Clemson’s next action will be against nationally ranked Furman on Wednesday, October 25 at Historic Riggs Field in Clemson.
