Men’s Soccer Blanks Charleston Southern 3-0

CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson soccer team defeated Charleston Southern 3-0 tonight September 22 in men’s intercollegiate soccer action at Historic Riggs Field.

The win improves Clemson to 3-3-1. It was the third straight shutout for the Tigers.

Senior Bob Cavanagh (Wakefield, RI) scored the game-winning goal in the first five minutes of play. Defender Pablo Webster sent a long throw into the six-yard box from about 25 yards away. Cavanagh headed the ball past Charleston Southern keeper Bob Tilley for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. The Tigers did not score again until just before half-time. Lee Ibrahim a sophomore form Clemson, SC scored the first goal of his Tiger career at the 40:59 mark, when he took an assist from Ian Fuller and Jeremy Iwaszkowiec and buried the ball into the empty net.

Senior Alan Woods (Burtonsville, MD) finished the scoring for the Tigers in the second half when he headed the ball into the goal at the 78:31 mark. Mike Potempa and Mark Lisi assisted on the play.

Clemson will return to action this Saturday when they travel to Raleigh, NC to take on ACC foe NC State with the start time set for 1:00 p.m..
