Men’s Golf in Fourth Place at Bellsouth Yellow Pages Intercollegiate

CARY, N.C. — Joey Maxon and Charles Warren are two of 11 golfers at even par or better to lead Clemson to a fourth-place ranking after two rounds of the BELLSOUTH Yellow Pages Intercollegiate at MacGregor Downs Golf Club in Cary, NC. The Tigers rank fourth out of the 10 teams, who played 36 holes on Friday.

The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Saturday at the par 72 course that is 6829 yards in length. Clemson is the defending champion and is coming off the championship of the Carpet Classic last weekend.

Clemson had scores of 293 and 290 on Friday, good enough for a 583 team total, +7. Larry Penley’s Tigers are 13 strokes behind team leader UNLV, who had rounds of 287 and 283 for a 570 score, six-under-par. Coming into this week, UNLV was ranked #1 in the nation and Clemson was second.

NC State is second at the tournament with a 579 score, while Wake Forest is third at 582. After Clemson is fifth-place North Carolina at 584, BYU at 586, Texas A&M at 587, Duke at 588, Virginia at 606 and Western Kentucky 608.

Ryan Gioffre of Wake Forest and Jeremy Anderson of UNLV hold the individual lead with a 139 total, five-under par. Joey Maxon is at 143, one-under par after rounds of 74 and 69. Warren shot a consistent 72-72 for a 144, even par, and is tied for eighth place.

Lucas Glover of Greenville’s Wade Hampton High School had ronds of 73 and 74 and is tied for 18th. Glover was a co-medalist at the Carpet Classic last weekend. Jonathan Byrd had scores of 76 and 75 and his 151 total is tied for 37th, while freshman John Engler had rounds of 74 and 78 on Friday. His 152 total is tied for 44th.
