Men’s Cross Country Heads to Kentucky for Greater Louisville Classic

Sept. 29, 2006

The Clemson men’s cross country team will travel to Louisville, KY to take part in Saturday’s Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park. The course this weekend will serve as a preview for the NCAA Southeast Regional, which will be held November 11. The event also serves as the second meet of the season for Bob Pollock’s cross country squad.

The Tigers will race at 9:30 AM on Saturday in the “gold” men’s competition. Among the other schools racing with Clemson this weekend will be Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Liberty, Louisville (host), Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.

Clemson first competed as a team in a home event on September 9, where sophomore Sam Bryfczynski earned his first collegiate title. Bryfczynski was subsequently named ACC Performer of the Week after the win. He led the Tigers to the team title for the fifth straight year at the Clemson Invitational.

Bryce Iverson ran unattached in the first race but finished runner-up to Bryfczynski. The native of Manassas, VA had an 8K time of 26:01.70. The #3 runner at the Clemson Invitational was Will Noble, who had a time of 26:02 in the first race of the season. Noble is classified as a red-shirt freshman in cross country.

The Tigers’ fourth and fifth runners at the Clemson Invitational were Sean Reilly. Both will make the trip this weekend. Soder, who was Clemson’s #2 runner early in the 2005 season, had a time of 26:10.40 at the Clemson Invitational. Reilly was sixth at that meet, crossing the finish line in 26:12.60.

Also making the trip with the Tigers this weekend will be Eric Soder, a red-shirt junior from Erie, PA, and Jay Lumpkins, a red-shirt sophomore from Orlando, FL.
