Men’s Basketball Players Are Candidates For ACC Honors

Clemson All-ACC Candidate

#1 Will SolomonGuard, Junior, East Hartford, CT Leading scorer in the ACC with a 21-point average…has been the ACC’s scoring leader every day since Dec. 1, 1999…ranked 16th the nation in scoring and15th in three-point goals per game last week ..ranked 11th in Clemson history in scoring with 1364 points…Clemson’s top scorer with 26 points in the win over #1 ranked North Carolina on Feb. 18…saw his Clemson record 52-game double-figure scoring streak end at NC State on Feb. 14, it is 16th highest streak in Clemson history…had streak of 27 straight ACC games in double figures snapped in that game…averaged 26.2 points a game during a streak of six straight 20-point games in December-January…has had five games of at least 30 points, four have come against top 20 teams…averaging 22 points a game against ranked teams…had 41-point explosion against Georgia Tech, his second career 40-point game…played all 40 minutes in the thrilling 111-108 game…had 30 points on 9-17 shooting against ninth ranked Wake Forest on the road, giving him 71 points over consecutive games…has 15.4 career average, seventh best in Clemson history…had 31 against a top 10 Seton Hall team, he was 11-19 from the field, 5-7 on three-point goals in that game…had 32 against Cincinnati in the Puerto Rico Classic, he was 5-10 on three-pointers in that game…had 32 against #17 Maryland, including season best 7-11 on three-point goals…no surprise that Solomon has stood out against ranked teams, he had better shooting and scoring stats last year against ACC teams than against non-conference teams…had 29 points against NC State, 25 came in the second half, including seven in the last two minutes…he has nine second halves in his career in which he has scored at least 20 points…has had at least two three-point goals in all but three games this year …has improved as a free throw shooter, he is shooting 79 percent for the year ….second in Clemson history in three-point goals with 201, only Terrell McIntyre has more..has nine career games of 30 points and 29 career games of 20 points…sixth in Clemson history in 20-point scoring games…second on the Clemson team in steals this year with 35, he has had at least one in all but three games….had 25 points, six rebounds and six assists at Florida State….ranked 8th in ACC in free throw shooting with 79 mark, much improved over last year’s 68 percent…also 12th in ACC in assists, sixth in three-point goal percentage.

#43 Chris HobbsForward, Freshman, Chapel Hill, SC Strong forward who has had an impact as a freshman…had season high 28 points against Virginia on Jan. 27, most points by a Clemson freshman since 1995-96 when Terrell McIntyre had 29 against Florida State…the total was most by a Clemson freshman front court player since 1982-83 when Anthony Jenkins had 30 against Duke…shooting 54.4 percent from the field and 72 from the line, trying to become first Clemson freshman since 1986-87 (Elden Campbell) to shoot at least 50 percent from the field and 70 percent from the line…his field goal percentage is second best in Clemson history among freshmen…ranks seventh in the ACC in rebounding in ACC games with an 7.2 average…has 6.4 average overall to rank 11th in the league, best among ACC freshmen…trying to become first Clemson freshman to lead the ACC rookies in rebounding since Dale Davis in 1987-88…averages a rebound every 3.05 minutes, second best figure by a Clemson freshman in history behind Tree Rollins 2.52 figure…had 17 points and 11 rebounds at Florida State, eight were off the offensive boards…had 13 rebounds at Wake Forest for his second best figure of the season…has 93 rebounds in just 311 ACC minutes…that includes eight rebounds in 26 minutes to lead the Tigers against #1 North Carolina….has had five double-doubles…came close to double-double at NC State with 15 points and nine rebounds…had double-double in win over NC State, he had 10 points and 11 rebounds in 28 minutes….had 11 points and 10 rebounds in just 22 minutes in his first ACC game (Jan. 2 vs. Maryland)…had 11 points and 15 rebounds in the win over The Citadel, then had 13 points and 10 rebounds against Northwestern…first Clemson freshman to record a double-double within the first three games of the season since Devin Gray in 1991-92…has some range, he hit a 17-foot jumper against Maryland on Jan. 2…saw limited playing time in Puerto Rico, he played just 19 minutes in the three games due to an ankle sprain suffered just before the tournament began…native of Chapel Hill whose father (Greg Hobbs) works for Duke Medical Center…both of his parents are graduates of North Carolina…Hobbs had torn ACL his senior year of high school and had surgery and rehab at Duke, so playing in Cameron will have meaning to him….has made 15 of his last 24 shots from the field. .

#0 Tony StockmanGuard, Freshman, Medina, OH A strong candidate for the All-ACC freshman team…Second on the Clemson team in scoring with a 12.3 average…top freshman scorer in the ACC, he is second in assists..scored 16 points in win over #1 ranked North Carolina, that included four three-point goals…set Clemson freshman record in that game, he now has 59….has five games of at least 20 points, including 20 against Georgia Tech…had 18 in second half of that game…ranked 7th in ACC in three-point goals per game, he is 7th in three-point percentage…had a 22-point game at Duke, he had six three-point goals, his season high…so far has similar stats to those put up by Terrell McIntyre in his freshman year (1995-96)…Stockman is averaging 12.3 points a game, near the average (12.7) McIntrye had as a freshman…Stockman has scored in double figures in all but seven games this year and has five games in the 20s…had 23 points to lead Clemson in scoring against Wofford, he was 9-17 from the field and 4-7 on three-point shots…that earned him ACC Freshman of the Week honors…had 22 in the win over Charleston Southern, including a 6-6 night from the foul line…had a season high five assists in that game and also a high of five steals…has made 82 percent of his free throws, third best in history among Clemson freshmen…made at least one three-point goal in 13 straight games at one stretch…had solid game against Maryland in game at Clemson with three assists and no turnovers in 24 minutes vs. Maryland’s tough defense…had outstanding game against Winthrop with 16 points on 6-9 shooting…his brother played at Winthrop and attended the game…has had one or no turnovers in 12 of the 26 games so far this year …Clemson’s second best scorer in the last five minutes of games decided by 10 points or less with 34 points, including five in the last minute against North Carolina…that included a three-point goal with 44 seconds left that put the game away.
