Men’s Basketball Inks Recruit

November 13, 1998

Clemson, SC – Clemson Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Larry Shyatt, announced the signing of Ronald Blackshear (Camilia, GA) on Friday to a national letter of intent.

Blackshear is described by Shyatt as a player that can play all three perimeter positions for Clemson. He is currently attending and playing for Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA. As a senior at Mitchell-Baker High School last season, the 6-4, 185-pound Blackshear averaged 25 points per game. In the prestigious Magic Roundball Classic all-star game last season, he poured in 28 points.

“We are thrilled to announce the addition of a very talented backcourt player to our program in Ronald Blackshear,” said Shyatt. “His national reputation as a tremendous perimeter scorer demonstrates our strong desire to attack and score more in the future.”

Overall, Blackshear is listed as a consensus top-40 high school prospect by various publications. Recruiting USA listed him as the seventh best shooting guard in the country.

“I like Ronald because he is extremely serious about his future both on and off the floor which is demonstrated by him attending Hargrave Military Academy this year.

“I hope to continue to develop a very successful career that has been influenced by his mother, grandfather and mentor Rufus McDuffie.”

Blackshear joins Raymond Henderson (Charlotte, NC) in signing with the Tiger program during the early signing period. Henderson, who averaged 16 ppg and 15 rpg as a junior, signed with the program on Wednesday.

“With the signings of Raymond and Ronald, I think it makes for a more attractive spot for the key point guard position that remains open,” Shyatt said.
