Maxwell Receives Good News

Clemson, SC-Surgery on Clemson defensive back Byron Maxwell last Friday revealed that he does not have a torn ACL. An MRI two weeks ago indicated that Maxwell had suffered a torn ACL while working out on his own in January. But, when team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Larry Bowman performed the surgery he determined that Maxwell did not have a torn ACL.

As a result, Maxwell should be ready for the beginning of spring practice on March 10. It is welcome news for the Tiger defense, who must replace cornerback C.J. Gaddis, who has decided to forego his senior year and enter the NFL draft.

“It was great news to hear that when I came out of the surgery,” said Maxwell, who had suffered a torn ACL on his left knee during his senior year of high school. The surgery last Friday was on his right knee.

The 6-1 native of North Charleston, SC and Fort Dorchester High School did not play during the 2006, sitting out the season as a red-shirt. Maxwell was listed as the number-three player in South Carolina by The State Newspaper his senior year and ranked as the #40 player in the entire nation by ESPN.com. He had 19 passes broken up and five interceptions as a junior in high school.
