Martin Wins Festival of Flowers Tournament

Clemson, SC–Clemson red-shirt freshman Ben Martin won the Festival of Flowers Golf Tournament in Greenwood on Sunday. . The Greenwood native set a tournament record with a two-day score of 132 after rounds of 67 and 65. Martin’s score broke the previous record of 134 , set by former Clemson golfer Brent Delahoussaye in 2001. “It feels good to win this tournament,” said Martin, who sat out the 2005-06 season at Clemson. “This is my hometown and my home course, so it’s special.” Martin’s victory marks the second consecutive year the tournament has been won by a Clemson golfer from Greenwood . Vince Hatfield, a freshman on Clemson’s 2005-06 team who is also from Greenwood,, won the event last year.

Martin was a two-time All-State selection at Greenwood High School in 2004 and 2005. He ranked second in his graduating class and had two 4.0 grade point semesters at Clemson this past year.

Martin defeated two of his Clemson teammates along the way. Phillip Mollica, who recently won the Monroe Invitational in New York, finished sixth with a 138 total, while Hatfield was 11th with a 141 total.
