Martin Named First-Team All-ACC

May 5, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson graduate Ben Martin was named to the All-ACC men’s golf team on Tuesday. It was the third first-team All-ACC selection for Martin, who also made the team as a freshman in 2007 and a junior in 2009.

Martin is the 14th Clemson player to make first-team All-ACC three times. He has also been named first-team Academic All-ACC three times and should be named for a fourth time when that team is announced in June. In April he received an honorary Weaver-James-Corrigan Scholarship from the ACC for his academic performance. He graduated December 17 with a degree in accounting.

On the course, Martin has been Clemson’s top golfer this year with a 72.62 stroke average. He has four top 10 finishes, including co-medalist honors at the Furman Invitational in March. He has 11 rounds under par to lead the team in that area as well. The native of Greenwood, SC joins Matt Hill of NC State as the only three-time selections on the current All-ACC team.

Martin gained runner-up honors at the 2009 United States Amateur and earned an invitation to the 2010 Masters. He will also play in the 2010 United States Open at Pebble Beach.

Martin will lead the Tigers into the NCAA Regional Tournament May 20-22. The 19th ranked Tigers will be issued a bid to the tournament on Monday at 6:00 PM.
