Maden Brothers Receive NCAA Invitations

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson men’s tennis players Yannick Maden and Dominique Maden were awarded bids to the NCAA Individual Singles and Doubles tournaments to be held May 22-27 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Illinois.  The individual championships will follow the team tournament set for May 16-21, also at Illinois.It marks the first time since the 2006 season that Clemson players have received bids to play in the NCAA Individual Singles and Doubles Tournaments.The Tigers’ Yannick Maden received an invitation to the singles tournament.  Maden is ranked 23rd in the nation nationally.  He is now 25-7 overall in singles and 19-4 in dual matches at number-one singles.  The 25 victories are the most for a Tiger since Carlos Alvarez won 36 in 2007.The doubles team of Yannick and Dominique Maden will play in the NCAA Doubles tournament.  The Maden’s are ranked 11th as a doubles team according to the latest poll.  The Maden’s are now 22-6 on the year, and have a 12-3 mark in dual matches.The Maden brothers are the first doubles team consisting of brothers to start for the Tigers since the 1913 season when brothers John and James Erwin teamed together for two years.  In 1913, the brothers won the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) Doubles Championship after James won the SIAA Singles Title.  The SIAA is composed of many of today’s Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference teams.The Erwin brothers were from Spartanburg, SC and were also stars on the Clemson basketball team.  James still holds the single-game scoring record with 58 points in a game against Butler Guards on February 9, 1912.
