Lumsden Allows Two Earned Runs in Five Innings at USA National Team Trials Scrimmage

Tucson, AZ – Philip Humber (RHP, Fr, Rice) and Tyler Lumsden (LHP, Fr, Clemson) each pitched 5.0 innings, and each allowed two runs (one earned) while striking out four batters as the USA Blue & Red teams played to a 2-2 draw over seven innings in the final scrimmage game of the 2002 USA Baseball National Team Trials Sunday night at Hi Corbett Field. Wes Littleton (RHP, So, Cal State Fullerton) and Justin Verlander (RHP, So, Old Dominion) each worked two scoreless frames, while Bob Zimmermann (RHP, So, SW Missouri State) and Ryan Schroyer (RHP, So, Arizona State) each hurled the final inning.

Paul Janish (IF, Fr, Rice) went 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Blue, while Rickie Weeks (IF, So, Southern) also had three hits, including an RBI-double. Aaron Hill (IF, So, LSU) went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI for the Red. Carlos Quentin (OF, So, Stanford) added a pair of singles.

The official 22-man roster for the 2002 USA Baseball National Team will be announced on Monday morning, June 24.
