Lindsay Browne’s Two Goals Lift Clemson

Clemson, SC – The third-ranked Clemson Lady Tiger women’s soccer team got two goals from freshman Lindsay Browne and a goal and two assists from sophomore Deliah Arrington as Clemson defeated 11th-ranked Florida 4-3 tonight October 27 at Historic Riggs Field.

Clemson improves to 16-1-1 overall while Florida drops to 12-7 on the year. With the win, Clemson ties the school record for number of wins in a season. Despite the loss, Florida’s Abby Wombach recorded a hat-trick as she scored all three of Florida’s goals.

Florida struck first at the 9:03 mark of the first half on a goal by Wombach with assists from Erica Schubert and Andi Sellers. Clemson would later tie the game with an unassisted goal by Arrington at the 11:07 mark.

With the score knotted at 1-1, Wombach registerd her second goal of the game on Schubert’s second assist of the game at the 38:36 mark. With Florida holding on to a 2-1 lead, Browne took a pass from Arrington at the 41:56 mark and scored her team high 12th goal of the season.

The two teams battled to a 2-2 tie at the half and the score would remain tied until the 61:37 mark when Browne scored her second goal of the game on an assist from Heather Beem. Clemson later added an insurance goal which proved to be the game winner at the 74:48 mark when Allison Mitchell scored on Arrington’s second assist of the game. With time running down, Florida made one last charge at the Lady Tigers as Wombach scored her third goal of the game with less than nine minutes to go.

Clemson will be in action again next Thursday, November 2 in the ACC Tournament in Durham, NC.
