Lady Tiger Track & Field Begins Outdoor Season This Weekend

The Clemson women’s track & field team will open its outdoor season this weekend by participating in the Weems Baskin Relays in Columbia, SC. The two-day event is scheduled to get underway Friday at 2:00 PM with the hammer throw competition. Saturday’s events will begin at 11:00 AM.

Teams expected to compete this weekend include Appalachian State, Furman, The Citadel, South Carolina, and South Carolina State.

Participating in the 100m dash this weekend will be Randi Hinton, a December graduate, and Ope Sobanjo. The Lady Tigers have four entries in the 800m, including Thea Dix, Caroline Rash. In the 1500m, Clemson will send Patrice McMillan and Casey Phillips to the competition.

Jenny Barton, the school record holder in the 3000m steeplechase, will compete in that event this weekend as well. In the 5000m, four Lady Tiger freshmen will be competing: Elizabeth Embler, Lauren Marriott, and Ashley Robinson.

Renata Miyamoto will be Clemson’s lone representative in the 100m hurdles, while Polly Hardy and Sierra Hill will compete in the 400m intermediate hurdles.

The Lady Tiger program will participate in a number of relays this weekend as well. The 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x300m, and 4x800m teams will be running this weekend. Clemson will also participate in the long and short sprint medley relays.

Tonya Nwankwo, Tia Perry, and Charmayne Smith will compete in the long jump. In the high jump, Felicia Hawthorne, and Anni Korhonen will be competing. Beth Jordan, school record-holder in the indoor pole vault, leads Helen Kirkland and Krissy Thompson in the outdoor event. In the shot put, Allison Bradshaw and Della Clark are entered for Clemson. Krystal Woods will throw the discus this weekend, while Rochelle Kokayko is in the hammer and Rachel McLaurin in the javelin.
