Lady Tiger Cross Country Repeats as Champs at USC Invitational

Columbia, SC – Clemson’s women’s cross country team kicked off its season in fine fashion with a first-place finish at the Gamecock Invitational. The Lady Tigers won the event with 45 points, finishing ahead of host South Carolina with 47. Western Carolina finished third with 102 points. The Lady Tigers also won this event in 2004.

Leading the way for Clemson was senior Jennifer Barton, who claimed her first individual title in cross country with a time of 18:33.89. Finishing second at the event was Clemson’s Casey Phillips, who recorded a time of 18:55.44 at the 5K course. Freshmen Sunday Ford and Candice Johnson performed well in their first collegiate event, finishing 14th and 15th, respectively. Patrice McMillan claimed 19th place, while Thea Dix finished 23rd and Lauren Marriott 28th.

The Lady Tigers return to action Saturday, September 10 as part of the men’s and women’s cross country invitational held on the Clemson campus. The women’s 5000m race is set to get underway at 8:30 AM.
