Lady Tiger Cross Country Ready for Commodore Classic

Clemson, SC – The women’s cross country team departed for Nashville, TN Friday morning. Clemson will be one of 17 schools competing in the Commodore Classic on Saturday at Percy Warner Park. The meet will cover a 5000m distance. The Lady Tigers are fresh off a win at the 22nd annual Seahawk Invitational last weekend at UNC-Wilmington.

Clemson won the team title with a total of 35 points last weekend, holding off East Carolina who posted 39. The top finisher for the Lady Tigers was Jenna Baker, a freshman from Bellevue, OH. She placed fourth in her first-ever collegiate race. She had a 5K time of 19:08.40.

Two other first-year performers placed in the top 10 at UNC-Wilmington. Joanie Castagno of Wilmington, DE was eighth with a time of 19:14.89, while Abby Iselborn (Portland, ME) was 10th at 19:28.11. All of Clemson’s scorers placed in the top 10. Sunday Ford and Laura Laughlin also posted their second straight top-10 finish individually.

The season kicked off for Clemson on August 31 at the Gamecock Invitational, where the Lady Tigers posted a fourth-place finish as a team.
