May 7, 2000

PALO ALTO, CA – Jason Meany provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 5,000m at the Cardinal Invitational Friday night at Cobb Track & Angell Field.

Meany finished the 5,000m in a time of 14:06.39, just under the maximum provisional standard of 14:07.00. He will have to run better in order to earn a spot in the NCAA Championships later this month at Duke University since he finished 28th of the 54-person field Friday night. Only 18 competitors will likely compete in the NCAA meet.

Mike Connelly finished sixth in the 800m in a time of 1:50.05. He was this second collegian to finish in the two-lap race. California-Santa Barbara’s Ryan Locklin was the top collegian, finishing in a time of 1:49.87.

Ryan Demers, the only other to compete, finished 15th in the 1500m in a time of 3:45.66.

The Tigers next compete Saturday and Sunday when they host the annual Orange & Purple Classic at the Rock Norman Track Complex.
