Howard Records Strong Performance to Lead Tigers On Saturday

ATLANTA, GA – The Clemson women’s diving team turned in another solid performance on Saturday against Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA. Senior Emily Howard recorded a qualifying score for NCAA Zones in both events and qualified in the three-meter for the first time this season.

“I am very pleased with our performance today,” said Head Coach Leslie Hasselbach Adams. “The ladies did a great job of transferring their corrections from practice to the competition stage. That is exactly what they need to do at this point in the season.

Howard finished third in the one-meter event with a score of 271.95 and finished fourth in the three-meter event with a score of 282.40 to qualify for NCAA Zones. She has now finished in the top five in each of the six events that she has competed this season.

Juliana Melchionda was the second-highest Clemson finisher in the one-meter event with a fifth-place finish with a season-high score of 263.90. Chelsea Uranaka finished sixth with a score of 256.00 and Megan Helwagen finished seventh with a 254.35. Freshman Sarah Braun recorded a season-high 244.65 finishing eighth in that event.

In the three-meter event, Helwagen finished fifth, behind Howard, with a score of 271.80 and Uranaka finished sixth with a 260.10. Jessica Resler finished seventh with a score of 249.80, her second-best of the season.

“The team showed great composure and confidence from the first event through the finish of the second event,” Adams said. “I am looking forward to a great upcoming week of training in preparation for our invitationals.”

The Tigers will return to action when the squad splits in half to travel to the Georgia Tech Invitational and the Pittsburgh Invitational on November 22-24.
