Host of Lady Tigers Headed to Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet

March 6, 2008

Clemson, SC – The Lady Tiger track & field program will travel selected student-athletes to Blacksburg, VA this weekend in a final attempt to earn qualification to next week’s NCAA Indoor Championships. The Virginia Tech Last Chance qualifier will take place Saturday at the school’s Rector Field House.

Patricia Mamona is in strong position to earn a bid to the championships, but needs just nine centimeters on her top triple jump effort to post an automatic qualifying mark for NCAAs. Her best this season was a 43’4.25″ at the Hokies’ Elite Meet on February 8-9. She ranks 14th nationally in the triple jump heading into last chance weekend.

She is coming off All-ACC performances in both the long jump and triple jump last weekend. Mamona will compete in the long jump as well this weekend, as she is just shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in that event.

April Sinkler has a strong mark at 42’2″, but will need to improve on her personal best to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. Sinkler has been impressive as a freshman in all of the jumps. She scored fifth or better at last week’s ACC meet in both the long jump and triple jump, and will compete in both events this weekend.

Polly Hardy owns a season-best provisional qualifying time of 8.40 in the 60m high hurdles, but will likely to need to drop almost a tenth of a second off her time to earn an at-large invitation to the national meet. She ranks third in school history in the event with a personal best 8.39 run last season.

The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held March 14-15 at the Randal Tyson Complex in Fayetteville, AR.
