Hokies Sweep Tigers in Swimming and Diving

BLACKSBURG, VA – The Clemson swimming and diving team traveled to Blacksburg to take on the hokies and fell 182-118 on the women’s side and 187-103 on the men’s side. The women are now 2-3 (1-2 ACC), while the men fall to 1-4 (0-3 ACC).

 

Rachel Regone put in a season-best 22.93 to defeat defending ACC champion Sara Smith in the 50 free. The time puts Regone and Smith as the favorites in the 50 free in the ACC. Smith won the 100 free over Regone 50.38 to 50.65, among two of the best in the ACC this season.

 

Senior Cassy LaRussa also picked up two wins on the evening in the 500 free and 1000 free. Junior Katrina Obas won the 200 breast for the Tigers in 2:21.43.

 

On the men’s side, freshman David Giambra put in a solid effort on the boards, placing second in the one-meter (306.97) and the three-meter (321.15).

 

The men entered the meet with a 14-1 all-time advantage over the Hokies, while the women held an 11-3 edge.

The Tigers will be off until December 5-7 when they compete in Athens in the Georgia Invite.
