Hewson Begins Play in US Amateur on Monday

Clemson, S.C.—Clemson junior Alice Hewson will begin play at the United States Women’s Amateur Championship on Monday at San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Cal.   Hewson will begin play at 3:40 p.m. eastern time and is paired with Americans Stephanie Lau and Sarah Burnham.

Hewson was a first-team All-ACC golfer for Kelley Hester’s Tigers this past year, leading the team to the NCAA National Championship tournament and a No. 20 final team ranking.  She set a school record for stroke average in a season.

Hewson has had a busy summer.  She played in the Vagliano Trophy team competition,  helped lead England to the English Women’s Amateur Team Championship in July with a ninth place finish in stroke play and a 2-0-1 record in match play, and finished sixth at the English Women’s Amateur Championships.

The U.S. Women’s Amateur will feature stroke play on Monday and Tuesday.  The top 64 players in the 156 player field will begin match play on Wednesday.
