Gumulya & Rompies Advance to ITA All-American Finals

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – One day after defeating the nation’s top ranked doubles team in the quarterfinals of the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Doubles Main Draw, Clemson senior Beatrice Gumulya and junior Jessy Rompies downed another ranked team to secure a spot in the tournament finals on Sunday.

The Tiger duo, the No. 7 seed in the doubles draw and ranked eighth nationally, defeated Auburn’s Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger 6-4, 6-3 (No. 5 seed, ranked sixth in the nation), in Saturday’s semifinals.

The pair opened the Main Draw with a Round of 16 win over Doyle/Tsay of Stanford (6-7(9), 6-2, 10-5) on Thursday. Their win over top-seeded and top-ranked Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe of Alabama (3-6, 7-6(3), 10-7) came in the semifinals on Friday.

Gumulya and Rompies face Davidson/Zhao of Stanford in the title match of the prestigious tournament on Sunday.
