Grant Lost for Season

Oct. 6, 2005

Clemson, SC – Clemson wide receiver Kelvin Grant suffered a torn ACL in practice on Wednesday and will be lost for the season. The junior from Camden, SC ranked fifth on the Clemson team in receptions this season with 10 catches and is fourth in reception yards with 84.

Grant was injured during a drill in practice on Wednesday while making a cut.

“Kelvin had been doing well, especially the last few weeks,” said Clemson Head Coach Tommy Bowden. “This is a big loss to our offense. He really had doing well on the field and in the classroom.” Bowden indicated that red-shirt freshman Andrew Diomande would move into the second team wide receiver position vacated by Grant’s injury.

Grant started five games last year and played in 10 overall when he had 23 receptions for 274 yards. He has 45 career receptions in 26 career games for 437 yards and one touchdown. Grant red-shirted the 2002 season at Clemson, so he has one more year of eligibility.

“This is difficult to deal with, but I have a good support system to help me through this,” said Grant. “This is a setback and hurdle to overcome. But, I will work hard to get back on the field next season.”
