Golf Wins First Round Of Hooters Match Play Championship

Myrtle Beach, SC-Matt Hendrix won his match 6 and 5 to lead Clemson to a 4-0-1 victory over Auburn in the first round of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship at Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC. The number-three seeded Tigers advance to face UNLV in the second round, which began Friday afternoon.

Hendrix defeated Jonathan Dismuke of Auburn in quick fashion. After trailing by two holes through the first four holes, Hendrix went on a streak, winning eight consecutive holes. He closed the match with a par on the 17th hole, which was his 12th hole of the day. Hendrix has been on a hot streak of late when it comes to match play, he was one of the United States top players at the Walker Cup earlier this fall.

Jack Ferguson won the number-two singles match 4 and 2 over Stuart Moore. Ferguson never trailed in the match and closed it with a birdie on the second hole, his 16th of the day.

Gregg Jones and Brent Delahoussaye both gained victory in competitive matches. Jones defeated Andrew Medley 2 up, while Delahoussaye gained a one-up victory over Jay Moseley. Sophomore Brian Duncan, who played in the event last year as a freshman, halved his match with Michael Daniels of Auburn. The two had the same score on the last five holes of the day.
