Giraldo Falls in First Round of NCAA Tournament

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Clemson women’s tennis player Carmina Giraldo (Pereira, Colombia) dropped a 7-5, 7-6(5) match to Georgia’s Marissa Catlin in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Individual Tournament, held this week in Gainesville. Catlin also won her second-round match and is among the 16 players remaining in the tournament after one day of competition. The top 64 players in the country were invited to the tournament.

Giraldo, ranked 67th nationally, posted a 12-8 record at number one singles this season and won 10 of her last 14 singles matches. An all-ACC selection, she recorded a 5-2 record in ACC singles competition. At the ACC Tournament in Atlanta, Giraldo defeated 11th-ranked Mariel Verban of Wake Forest 6-4, 6-4.
