Georgia State Upsets Clemson

CLEMSON, SC – Brian Mitchell and Arash Derakhshan both scored a goal each in leading Georgia State to a 2-1 upset win over 12th-ranked Clemson at Riggs Field Wednesday night.

Georgia State is now 1-0, while Clemson falls to 1-2 this season. Clemson was ranked 16th by Soccer America and 12th by Soccertimes.com. Georgia State scored both goals in the first half. Brian Mitchell scored at the 18:31 mark with an assist by Jonathan Scraggs. Arash Derakhshan scored an unassisted goal at the 26:43 mark to give the Panthers a 2-0 advantage.

Clemson scored on a penalty kick early in the second half at the 46:23 point. Ross Goodacre scored the penalty kick for his first goal of the season.

Clemson will play in the Furman Invitational this weekend in Greenville, SC. The Tigers will play Florida International at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 7. On Sunday, September 9, Clemson will play Notre Dame at 12:30 p.m.
