Game 1 – Clemson vs. North Carolina A&T Game Notes

Clemson:

Tyler Colvin’s outfield assist in the first inning was hissixth of the season. Taylor Harbin’s second-inning error was justhis ninth error in 317 chances. He is now fielding at a .972 clip.Adrian Casanova threw out two of three stolen base attempts on theday. For the season, Casanova threw out 20 of 65 base stealers.Andy D’Alessio’s third-inning error was just his sixth in 588chances. He is now fielding at a .990 clip. With a single in thefifth inning, Herman Demmink extended his current hitting streak to12 games. He is now 67-174 (.385) in his last 41 games, hittingsafely in 36 of the 41 games. Stephen Faris established a careerhigh with 10 strikeouts on the day. Clemson got the leadoff man onbase in five of the first seven innings. The Tigers were unable toplate the leadoff batter until the fifth occurrence when TaylorHarbin’s bloop single scored pinch-runner Daniel Pritchard fromsecond base in the seventh inning. After going 1-11 in the finalgame of the ACC Tournament with runners in scoring position,Clemson started tonight’s game 0-5 with RISP in the first sixinnings. In the seventh inning, Clemson was 4-for-6 with eight RBIin the seventh inning with RISP. With back-to-back doubles and asingle in the eighth inning, Clemson finished the game 7-14 (.500)and 11 RBI with runners in scoring position Demmink’s bases-loadedtriple in the seventh inning improved him to 4-for-6 with 10 RBIwith the bases loaded. Daniel Moskos recorded the win in hisfirst-ever post-season appearance. With the win, Clemson improvesits NCAA Tournament record to 85-64. The Tigers are 40-24 in NCAATournament games under head coach Jack Leggett. Clemson is now 28-7in NCAA Regional games played at home, including wins in 14 of itslast 15 games. Clemson’s record improves to 40-21 overall thisseason, eclipsing the 40-win plateau after recording 39 wins ineach of the last two seasons. The Tigers have now won at least 40games in 18 of its last 20 seasons.

North Carolina A&T:

Tonight’s game marks the Aggies’ first-ever NCAA Regionalappearance. Nick Mayo stole his team-leading 20th base in 24attempts in the first inning. Mayo’s two-out RBI triple in thefifth inning was his first career triple. With a single in thefirst inning and another single in the sixth inning, Jeremy Jonesrecorded his 24th multi-hit game of the season. He is now 81-202(.401) on the season. Jones was 1-for-2 on the day with men inscoring position. He is now 29-62 (.468) on the season with runnersin scoring position. Starting pitcher Michael Hauff had a strongouting through the first six innings, holding Clemson to one run onthree hits, but finished the game allowing five hits and five runs(four earned) in 6.1 innings. With the loss, North Carolina A&Tfalls to 0-1 all-time in NCAA Tournament play.
