Furman Downs Akron, 3-1, In Opening Match Of Clemson/Nike Men’s Soccer Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C.–Furman remained undefeated with a 3-1 win over Akron in the first game of the 24th annual Clemson/Nike Men’s Soccer Invitational at Clemson, SC Friday evening.

With the win, Furman improves to 7-0-1 overall, while Akron falls to 5-3-1 this season. In the other game, Clemson will play second-ranked Santa Clara at 7:30 p.m. Friday night. On Sunday, Furman will play Santa Clara at 12:30 p.m., while Clemson will play Akron at 3:30 p.m.

Furman is ranked 14th by the NSCAA and 16th by Soccer America. The Paladins’ Clint Hill, Andy Foy and John Barry Nusum scored goals. Nusum leads the team in scoring with seven goals.
