Furman Defeats Cal State Fullerton In First Game Of Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, SC – Anthony Esquivel scored the winning goal in the overtime period in leading ninth-ranked Furman to a 2-1 overtime win over 20th-ranked Cal State-Fullerton in the first game of the Clemson Men’s Soccer Invitational at Clemson, SC Friday evening.

Esquivel scored on an assist by John Barry Nusum at the 94:45 mark into the game.

Furman took a 1-0 lead at the 56:32 mark as Patrick Tanner scored with an assist by McNeil Cronin. Cal. State-Fullerton evened the score at the 69:16 point into the game as Duncan Oughton scored from a pass by Art Ramirez.

Furman is now 8-1 overall, while Cal. State-Fullerton falls to 7-2 this season. Clemson will play Brown later this evening.

On Sunday, October 1, Furman will play Brown at 12:30 p.m. and Clemson will play Cal St.-Fullerton at 3:00 p.m. in the second and final day of the tournament.
